Welcome to the 2008 OPA Officlal GPS Unit Page. We have been working very hard at making sure we have the latest in technology for reading speeds for breakouts in our 6 official OPA GPS classes. These classes are Class 100 to Class 600. In these 6 classes of the 8 that OPA runs today, we are making sure that everyone understands the rules of engagement with GPS units. It is the reacers responsibility to make sure that the ATTI GPS unit is working properly at all times. We are allowing a second GPS as a backup in case your PRIMARY unit fails. It is the OPA's discression to examine a boat when it comes out of the water after the race to inspect what was initially setup before you hit the water at the beginiing of the race. Anyone deciding to not get that check if OPA has decided your boat is in question will be given last place with last place points. So please be careful and pay attention if Race Control asks you to remain in the water for inspections. Now, on to the new GPS units that are available and what you can expect this year with regards to GPS'. There is a new WIRELESS GPS unit available that the OPA officials have decided to use moving forward this year and the following years. We do expect anyone that is currently purchasing a new GPS unit to buy the new wireless one as we are moving to this being a requirement for the 2009 racing season. The cost of the unit is $500 and this includes shipping, which includes the Premier Tracking unit, GPS antenna, and the ignition wiring cable harness. The model number of this unit is STPrimier. You will also need to put this unit into a pelican box that can be permantly mounted to your boat. The cost of the box is 36.91 which includes the shipping also, the foam insert needed, and the clear lid for GPS visibilty. Anyone that currently owns a J2 tracking unit will be able to use their unit this year only. We are asking that you purchase the ignition wiring harness for this unit and get rid of the battery and the connector. This way, everytime the boat starts it will power up the GPS unit. You can purchase this ignition wiring harness at a cost of 21.50 which includes the shipping. We will ask anyone that is purchasing a backup unit to buy the new wireless unit and use their J2 as the backup. GPS units will not be allowed to be moved from boat to boat. If you don't have one then you will need to buy a brand new unit from the OPA at a cost of $600. So please make sure you have your unit serialized with Frank Vecce, the OPA GPS official. Listed below are the websites for the GPS units and the Pelican boxes, the cost of the GPS units, and the cost of the pieces individually if you need just a part. Please make sure everyone buys the ignition wiring harness. No batteries this year! GPS & Pelican Box Price List: ATTI Premier Wireless GPS Unit-(STPremier)-$500.00-Includes Shipping
