OPA Racing Announces Postponement of the Freeport Offshore Grand Prix to 2026
Point Pleasant, NJ – The Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA Racing) has announced that the highly anticipated Freeport Offshore Grand Prix, originally scheduled for July 11–13, 2025, will now be postponed to 2026.
The event was initially postponed earlier this year due to a lack of jurisdictional support. In July, following productive discussions with the United States Coast Guard (USCG), both OPA Racing and the USCG mutually agreed that shifting the race to 2026 would be in the best interest of the local promotion, sponsors, and competitors.
“Freeport promises to be an enormous event with strong momentum,” said OPA President - Nick Smith. “Bringing offshore racing back to Long Island is a massive undertaking, and we want to ensure it’s done at the highest possible level. The best thing we can do now is use this extra time to make 2026 bigger and better than ever.”
OPA Racing extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Village of Freeport and Mayor Kennedy for their tremendous support, as well as to the sponsors, fans, and volunteers whose dedication continues to make this event possible.
Planning for the 2026 Freeport Offshore Grand Prix is already underway, with OPA Racing committed to delivering world class competition and a great fan experience on Long Island’s South Shore.
