OPA Winter Awards Banquet Celebration

Coming off another very successful racing season, the OPA Teams once again converged at the Stockton Seaview Hotel in Galloway Township, NJ holding their annual meeting and moved over to the Awards Banquet hosted by the Oyster Creek Inn in Leeds Point, NJ.
During the meeting, Ed “Smitty” Smith, President of OPA, confirmed the unification with APBA again for the 2015 Season.
Some changes were discussed during this meeting that will be reflected in the 2015 Rule Book. OPA will continue to red flag races anytime there is an incident on the course. Once the course is clear, the race will be restarted.
The awards banquet is always more like a family reunion for wayward racers. The house was packed with a live band and fantastic food. Teams came from Nevada, Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey..........
OPA CHAMPIONSHIPS SET FOR ENGLEWOOD BEACH NOV. 18 - 22

Race fans can now enjoy a second blast of offshore action in Florida late 2015 as an APBA-sanctioned Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) Championship will take place in Englewood Beach, FL. from November 18 to 22. The races will run in conjunction with the community’s Englewood Beach WaterFest, a newly formed event celebrating everything this shore side community has to offer boating and outdoor enthusiasts.
“What the Englewood Beach Chamber of Commerce wanted to do for 2015 was put together a group of local businesses to work with a race promoter and make the races more of a community event and not just a two-day offshore boat race,” said Ed Hill, Executive Director of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce. “Englewood is already very busy from January to the end of April. When you have another 20,000 people come for the races, it didn’t really enhance the economic impact due to all the congestion. Moving the races to November and organizing a community event at the same time takes care of that.”.....

2015 Is About to Begin

Here we go... few more weeks to get all that hardware back in the Bilges. I dont know about anyone else, but our stuff is in pieces. We'll be there guns a blazin. Really excited about the home town race kicking off the first of many this season. So whozs going?
And then LOTO is ramped up and ready for the OPA teams. Every boat that shows will be handed 1000.00 US Dollars to help offset the expense of travel. I know of a number of boats that are making the trip. If you are going please post here.
Atlantic City, is coming along nicely, as well as the Manasquan Race. Fall River Mass. first time event, deposit has been recieved, Coast Guard is on board. All is good to go. The Michigan Races are as usual ready to go. I would start booking rooms up there as soon as possible. After 13 years of working together with Mikey and the CBPBA, we have raced in Cambridge, then Solomons. It has become more and more difficult to finance the races in those areas. So we have put together a group to put on a kick ass national Championship in Ocean City Maryland. CBPBA will handle the event as usual, Saris Racing Engines, is the Prize Purse sponsor of the event. Phil Houck aka Bull On The Beach. is picking up the tab for the Crane, pit area, Trophies, and of course Food. Wild Bill Purnell is going to keep his Hotel open a week longer, and is providing all the staff lodging, and is holding all the rooms for the race teams, so call the Atlantic Hotel now and start booking. Wazzup Motorsports, will be sponsoring the insurance, Helicopter, and the staff expenses.and transport. This has been a team effort and I want to thank, Jason and Johhny Saris, Phil Houck, Wild Bill Purnell, Mikey and the CBPBA. Finally we have a World Championship in the WARM climate of Florida. Englewood Florida is working on a two week Waterfest event, second to none. There is a 50K prize purse there, that we will disscuss with the teams on how to distribute. Prize/Travel. which ever gets the teams there. So there it is. Short and sweet nothing to it. Any questions fire away.

The "Rockin' Road Grill" is hosted by Rock guitarist, Eddie Berner (“A Flock of Seagulls”). He is now a prefessional chef and is hosting a reality series that takes him across America in his pimped out RV sharing adventures with other rock stars in their homes and at the gigs where they perform.
In August, Eddie made a stop at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, NJ and caught up with some of the OPA racers. This episode will be aired on September 6, 2015 on TCN (Comcast Network) at 8:30pm EST.....

OPA Nationals to be held in Englewood

At this time OPA Racing must announce that the Nationals that were to be held in Ocean City, Maryland has been cancelled and cannot be rescheduled. We would like to thank the USCG of Ocean City in issuing a permit for the possible reschedule of the Ocean City Grand Prix in such a short manor. However, we are unable to go forward and reschedule this race as we are unable to secure assets required to produce this race and has been deemed impossible as they are unavailable.
We would also like to thank the City of Ocean City, Phil Houck & Bill Purnell in their efforts in trying to produce the race in Ocean City.
The OPA Nationals will now be held in conjunction with the OPA Worlds in Englewood Beach, Florida!
Ocean City Grand Prix, possible reschedule

Unfortunately, the weather has changed our plans for this weekend. Due to the status of the storm upgraded to a Hurricane it must be cancelled. We are working with the Coast Guard, county and City to reschedule the Ocean City Nationals for the weekend of October 16, 17 & 18. Stand by for further details.

It's almost time to head down to Englewood for the 2015 OPA World Championships at the Englewood Beach Waterfest. With the anticipation of a large boat count we need to reach out to the teams to get an idea of the space you a looking to occupy in the Dry Pits. This information is also needed to help in coordinate the Parade/Street Party.
We would like to accommodate all the teams with all their vehicles, so please fill out the Race Roll Call Form and submit it to OPA as soon as possible.....

The Ocean City Grand Prix was cancelled due to Hurricane Joaquin. The race was rescheduled and held in Englewood, FL. The National Championship race will be held on Friday, November 20th. This race will be the finale of the OPA National Race Series and determine the National Champion in each class.

The OPA race seasons just keep on getting better every year and 2016 was no exception! We had another successful season in 2015 with races in Seaside Heights, NJ; Lake Ozark, MO; Atlantic City, NJ; Manasquan, NJ; St Clair, MI; Port Huron, MI/Sarnia, Ont, Can; and Fall River, MA. This year the OPA World Championship was hosted by the Englewood Beach Waterfest in Englewood, FL. This race site was off the hook! The town of Englewood welcomed us with open arms and gave us two days of beautiful weather to race and allowed us to crown our World Champions!
